No, not Michael Jackson. That genre of book that keeps you on the edge of your seat and sends your heart hammering when your mobile rings. Personally, I’m just way too wired to read or watch this genre. However, the continuous stream of thrillers populating best-seller lists can only mean one thing: people love to feel the fear.

Although thrillers are as rare as Brussels sprouts in my (literary) diet, I have read one: The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. Once I’d got into it, I couldn’t put it down. I just had to keep reading to find out what was going on, even though it was making me anxious and jumpy. It did not disappoint. Many people love this kind of excitement (and can handle it better than I!) They want more from a book than simple escapism; they want to feel something physical. And thrillers can certainly make your heart race and your breathing speed up as you plough through the pages.

Thrillers are also mentally stimulating. There is often a mystery or a puzzle that needs solving, so readers are drawn into the plot, trying to solve it for themselves, testing their own detective skills. Who hasn’t enjoyed a smug moment, when they’ve worked out who the killer/thief/baddie is before the main characters have?

So, if you want to make your heart race while keeping your mental faculties ticking over during the winter, then look no further. William Shakesbeer has a wide selection of thrillers for your to choose from. From the best-selling James Patterson, author of the Alex Cross novels, we have 4th of July, The Moores are Missing, Kill Me If You Can and Truth or Die to mention just a few.

We can also offer you some books from the ‘Queen of Crime’ Martina Cole. Ranging from plots centered around life in a women’s prison, Two Women, to a feisty seventeen-year old girl at the heart of London’s gangland, Dangerous Lady, fans love Cole’s gritty writing.

Just in case you can’t get enough of the adrenaline rush, we’ve also got thrillers from popular authors such as Karin Slaughter and Andy McNab. These are just a few of our huge selection. We’re sure you’ll find something to keep you up at night!
